Loud music and the reaction of drivers

Listening to music at high volume while driving can worsen reactions and lead to a traffic accident. This conclusion was made by canadian scientists.

Their research showed that it takes about 20% more time to perform physical and mental exercises with loud music.

The British Royal automobile club (RAC) warned that if the reaction time of drivers is so reduced, they can get into a fatal accident.

According to RAC Executive Director Edmund king, this study shows that “loud music not only causes inconvenience to others, but can also lead to accidents.”Under the loud music, the chance of journey on forbidding signal of the traffic light is doubled.

Canadian scientists in their study asked volunteers to perform various tasks to the music, changing the volume from 53 decibels (typical noise level in the office) to 95 decibels (noise level on an oil rig). Scientists have noticed that with the increase in the volume of the reaction of people fell heavily when performing both physical and mental tasks.

At a music level of 95 decibels, the response was slowed by 20% when participants in the experiment had to make decisions.

In addition, experts say, the probability of an accident increases if the driver listens not calm, but aggressive, rhythmic music, reports the BBC.

Conrad king , a psychologist who advises RAC, argues that drivers need to carefully approach the choice of music also because the speed of the compositions also affects the probability of a traffic accident.

“As a rule, if the speed of a musical composition exceeds 60 beats per minute, then the listeners’ heartbeat quickens and blood pressure increases, ” says king. – It does not matter what music you listen to: Opera, classics or the most modern rave. It’s all about the beats per minute.”
And meanwhile from another source:
“In Greece, the police give drivers discs with records of folk music. They believe that this music will help drivers to avoid accidents”
